Amsterdam

Hello my fellow adventure seekers!!!!

Ahh Amsterdam, The Capital of Netherlands.... we have arrived.  We're here to take in your beautiful architecture and enjoy the vibes.

The time has come to move on to new pastures and we find ourselves in Amsterdam.. The Canal city of the world?

It's quite captivating to see.

This time we decided to try something different, why not, after all we are on an adventure.

We took the overnight Ferry from Liverpool station in London to Hooks of Holland, then the train to Amsterdam. What an awesome experience that was!

Here's our room for the night.

I found this little twist while searching the internet, the Stena Line Rail and Sail posted by the man in seat61... I thought I'd post his link here so you can have a look.  It's pretty self explanatory and the journey is quite detailed. We were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it. Glad we tried it out. We'll definitely use his site again for future travels.

Read all about it here...

The journey is exactly as described.

Yeah, Amsterdam is loaded with Canal, take a look down the street and on nearly every corner you  might run into a Canal.

Fun facts: Did you know that there are more than 100 kilometers of canals and there are 3 Main Canals that was dug up in the 17th Century?

It's also famous for The Rijksmuseum- The National museum of the Netherlands. Also famous for The Van Gogh Museum and The Anne Frank House. Most people are familiar with Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum because you're in the Netherlands,

but......

Who is Anne Frank and why is she important?

Anne Frank was a German girl and Jewish victim of the Holocaust who is famous for keeping a diary of her experiences. Anne and her family went into hiding for two years to avoid Nazi persecution. Her documentation of this time is now published in
The Diary of a Young Girl

The German SS and police discovered the Frank family in 1944 and deported them to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Later that year, Anne and her sister Margot were transported to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Anne and Margot died in Bergen-Belsen in February or March 1945.

The story of what happened to Anne Frank is among the most well-known of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. Her diary is the first encounter many people have with the history of the Nazi Germany's attempt to murder all the Jews of Europe during the world War II.

Key Facts

Anne Frank and her family spent two years hiding in a secret apartment behind her father's former office in Amsterdam.

The Franks and four other Jews who were hiding with them were discovered by authorities on August 4, 1944.

The only member of the Frank family who survived the Holocaust was Anne's father, Otto, who later worked diligently to get his daughter's diary published.

Ok, that's enough history lesson for now.

Amsterdam is beautiful and a delight to explore. We enjoyed doing just that. We ate at a restaurant in town where we had the best view in the house. Just simply sat outdoors by the fireplace and watched all the activities from the town square. Surely, you can't beat that.

The architecture is historic!

Enjoying the sights

Day or night....it's a sight to behold...breathtaking!

At night while strolling along, some buildings are lit up in pretty colours like this one.

Observing their favourite mode of transportation.

Relaxing in front of our Hotel.. its a vibrant city to enjoy.. It gives you the feeling of you never wanting to leave or go to bed.  There is too much to take in here and you don't want to miss any of the experience..

Well done Amsterdam, I loved every minute of our time together.

Dag Amsterdam-----Tot ziens. and as always bedankt...

Rotterdam awaits.

Until next time my fellow adventure seekers, enjoy discovering your own delights!
